Deep Release and Restore: Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra with Angelique Raptakis

Yin yoga is a grounding, meditative practice where postures are held mostly passively for longer periods of time to give muscles time to relax and gain deeper access to the joints and the connective tissues of the tendons, ligaments, and fascia. The intention is to facilitate circulation and hydration to the joint capsules and these body tissues. Through variations of seated and reclining poses, Yin Yoga takes a mindful approach to yoga, cultivating awareness and inner calm.

Yoga Nidra, or Yogic Sleep, is a meditative practice that explores the liminal space between being awake and being asleep, the deepest state of relaxation while still remaining awake. Yoga Nidra is an effective technique for deep relaxation and utilizes guided visualizations to rejuvenate the nervous system and bring ease physically, mentally and emotionally. Such deep stillness allows for the release of stress and energetic blockages. The practice of Yoga Nidra has been found to reduce tension and anxiety, improve quality of sleep, increase healing from trauma, reduces stress induced challenges like chronic pain, burnout, and migraines amongst other benefits.

During this 2-hour session, Angelique will blend these two yoga styles. She will lead you through a series of Yin Yoga poses before settling into a fully supported savasana, resting pose. She will then guide you through the experience of Yoga Nidra to completely envelope the body into relaxation, which can be healing to your body, mind and soul.

Cost: $30

Angelique came to yoga in 2009 and found a sense of lightness and length in her body, less chatter in her mind, and heightened senses, allowing a blissful connection to the world around her. Yoga has helped her recover from injuries, work through grief, and manage anxiety. She enjoys working with people in group classes and private sessions to facilitate a state of balance and connection between mind body spirit (physical/material body to the energetic subtle body), through the use of asana, pranayama, meditation, guiding you and creating the space to allow one to do deep work.

Angelique received her 200-hour training from Sky House Yoga in 2016, completed her advanced 300-hour training in 2019, and is an E-RYT200/RYT-500. She has completed over 60 hours of training in Restorative Yoga, 30 Hours of Yin Yoga training with Machelle lee, Surviving Assault (Yoga Essentials as Early Intervention Following Assault or Trauma) with Diana Tokaji, and numerous Ayurveda immersions. Angelique is also a Reiki Master and a Community Herbalist who looks to nature for inspiration and weaves its lessons into her classes. Through the practice of yoga, we can more easily come to the connection between our body, our breath, our mind, and the universe we find ourselves in. She will always be a student of yoga and is deeply grateful for the continued loving guidance and wisdom of her teachers.
