Yin Yoga and the Metal Element: Preparing for Autumn at Uplift Yoga with Machelle Lee

  • Roots & River Yoga 30 W Potomac Street Brunswick, MD 21716 United States (map)

In the Five Element tradition of Chinese Medicine, Autumn is governed by the Metal Element, a season of gathering inward, releasing what is no longer needed, and discerning what is most precious and worth carrying forward. As the natural world begins to shed, conserve, and return its energy to the roots, we are invited to do the same.

The organs associated with Metal are the Lungs and Large Intestine, which embody the essential rhythms of receiving and releasing. The Lungs take in what sustains us and help us let go of what has already been used. The Large intestine completes the process of elimination, reminding us that making space is just as important as taking something in.

In this seasonal Yin Yoga workshop, Machelle Lee will explore the physical, energetic, and psychological dimensions of the Metal Element. Through gentle, long-held floor postures, we will work with the connective tissues and meridian pathways associated with the Lungs and Large Intestine while cultivating qualities of breath, spaciousness, discernment, and release.

Throughout the practice, Machelle will weave in reflections on the physical functions of these organs and the deeper psycho-spiritual themes of Metal—including grief, boundaries, letting go, clarity, and the ability to recognize and preserve what is truly valuable.

We will also explore simple seasonal rituals and practices to help you consciously transition into Autumn, creating a meaningful pause between the outward energy of Summer and the quieter, more inward season ahead.

No prior experience with yoga is necessary. Come as you are and allow this practice to help you release what is no longer needed, make room for what matters, and prepare for the inward journey of Autumn.

Cost: $50
